The project aims at harmonizing the requirements for a future Counter Battery acquisition system based on a variety of sensors among pMS to be able to further develop capabilities around 2030-2035 while ensuring interoperability and develop common concepts.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The quantitative and qualitative strengthening of indirect fire capabilities worldwide and the war in Ukraine reassert the importance of artillery and counter-artillery in future conflicts. Because artillery is responsible for 70% of the losses in combat, the ability to neutralize enemy artillery capacities is vital to ensure the survivability of land armed forces. Counter-Battery is in this view a significant capacity to achieve this goal. In the light of these elements, the French Army, as well as other EU members’ armies, wishes to renew the target acquisition component of its counter-battery capabilities in order to guarantee its operational superiority thanks to improved sensors (e.g. of current system to renew: Cobra and other innovative sensors). To do so, the next-generation counter-battery component will rely on an ensemble of target acquisition means, C2, and effectors for aggression. One of the focus will be the quickness of spotting of enemy artillery batteries in the tactical depth.

OBJECTIVES/PRODUCTS

Harmonize the requirements for a future Counter Battery acquisition system among pMS in order to be able to further develop capabilities around 2030-2035 while ensuring interoperability and develop common concepts.
