The project aims at developing concepts and operational requirements of a Short-Range Air to Air Missile (SRAAM) to counter modern 5th generation and future 6th generation combat aircraft and airborne threats within a six-pillar approach until 2030.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project consists of six pillars. Pillar 1 to 4 will be conducted in parallel during the time period 2024 -2029. Pillar 5 and 6 will begin in 2026 and end in 2030.Pillar 1: Analysis of operational requirements including target catalogue for airborne targets Pillar 2: Analysis of readiness and accessibility of relevant technologies in the European Market Pillar 3: Develop missile concepts and evaluate them against the operational requirements defined in pillar 1.Pillar 4: Develop integration concepts for the existing and planned combat aircrafts Pillar 5: Assessment of guided missile technologies Pillar 6: Evaluation of the results of pillars 1 to 5 and finalization of three different missile concepts Technical contend is planned to be done within respective EDF call FSRM.

OBJECTIVES/PRODUCTS

With their special characteristics such as range, speed, flexibility and standing time, air forces play an essential role in the armed forces portfolio and offer politics and the military leadership a wide range of options for action across the entire operational and intensity spectrum. Furthermore, to gain and maintain Air Superiority is the key for the necessary operational freedom of national and multinational forces operating on land, at sea and in air.   The aim of FSRM is to develop concepts and operational requirements of a Short-Range Air to Air Missile (SRAAM) to counter modern 5th generation and future 6th generation combat aircrafts and airborne threats within a six-pillar approach until 2029. FSRM shall guarantee access to and control of information for successful integration into 4th, 5th and future 6th generation platforms, training, and operations for the participants. FSRM shall be ITAR-free.  The subsequent development of a missile is not part of this project and would have to be decided separately in the progress of the project and, if necessary, submitted as a follow-up project.
